The Republican Party is fracturing over support for Israel, with President Donald Trump’s most committed voters far more willing to stand by the longtime ally than the rest of his coalition, according to a new Politico poll that lands as pro-Israel groups pour money into contested GOP primaries.
The survey, conducted for Politico by Public First, polled 2,035 U.S. adults online April 11-14 and did not publish a margin of error.
It found that 48% of self-identified MAGA Trump voters say they support Israel and approve of its current government, compared with 29% of Trump voters who do not identify with the movement.
The gap holds on the war in Gaza: 41% of MAGA voters call Israel’s military campaign justified, against 31% of non-MAGA voters.
Non-MAGA Trump voters are also more skeptical of Israel’s sway in Washington.
They are 10 points more likely than MAGA voters to say Israel’s government holds too much influence over U.S. foreign policy. The divide widens by age, with the youngest Trump voters the most uneasy about the relationship.
