Paxton Says Trump Nod, Cornyn Record Boosts Campaign

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, discussing his runoff campaign against incumbent Sen. John Cornyn, told Newsmax on Sunday that his efforts were boosted both by President Donald Trump’s endorsement and by airing messages criticizing Cornyn’s record on immigration, gun rights, and more.

“Now that we’ve defined John and people understand what he’s about, we finally had enough money to get a message out about what he actually believes, which is that he fought the border wall,” Paxton said on Newsmax’s “Wake Up America Weekend.”

“He’s pro-amnesty. He didn’t want Donald Trump to be reelected,” he added.

Asked why he is the better choice for Texas Republicans despite Trump and Vice President JD Vance describing Cornyn as “a good man,” Paxton pointed to what he called a lack of accomplishments during Cornyn’s time in office.

“For the last 42 years, I’ve been asking voters since April 8 of last year: Can you name one good accomplishment of John Cornyn?” Paxton said. “No one has ever given me an answer.”

Paxton also criticized Cornyn over bipartisan gun legislation signed during former President Joe Biden’s administration and immigration issues.

“John Cornyn was part of helping Joe Biden restrict Second Amendment rights,” Paxton said. “He was on the side of Joe Biden, bringing Afghan refugees to this state without any vetting.”
