The Pentagon has authorized the use of Naval Station Great Lakes, just outside Chicago, as a staging ground for Trump administration operations targeting undocumented immigrants, two defense officials told the Washington Post.
The officials said the base will act as a hub for any upcoming Department of Homeland Security missions. The Post also reported that the site could also be used to accommodate National Guard or active-duty troops if President Donald Trump orders a military surge in Chicago, similar to deployments earlier this summer in Los Angeles and Washington, D.C.
