Transgender activist Lilly Tino announced he is “stepping away” from social media, citing emotional hurt and a desire to shift the tone of his content, following Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier’s announcement of an investigation into a video Tino posted from women’s restrooms at Disney World.
In a TikTok video shared Wednesday, Tino said his content, initially intended to “educate and to entertain,” had become “confrontational and in your face” because of “the amount of hate” he has received over the past two and a half years.
“I am deeply hurt because of the amount of hate that I’ve gotten over the past three years doing this,” Tino said in the video. “That hurt has influenced the way that I do things as a content creator.”
The announcement comes after Attorney General Uthmeier’s office confirmed it was investigating Tino’s viral video, titled “Bathroom tea!” The video, which ranked women’s bathrooms at Disney World based on cleanliness and aesthetics, drew significant backlash, particularly for including images where the faces of other women were visible in the background.
Uthmeier has stated that his office does “not tolerate men or boys in women’s and girls restrooms, gyms, private spaces. No tolerance. We’re investigating this one.”
