The Trump administration removed acting Federal Emergency Management Agency administrator Karen Evans Tuesday and temporarily replaced her with Robert Fenton, who has held multiple FEMA leadership positions in the past 30 years.
It was not immediately clear why the administration replaced Evans, who has been in the interim role since December, but a FEMA spokesperson told Politico she has been asked to lead special projects at the Department of Homeland Security as director of the Waste, Fraud and Abuse Task Force.
“We are grateful for Ms. Evans’ service and look forward to her continued contributions in this important new role at DHS,” the spokesperson said.
Evans’ removal appears to be confirmed by the agency on its website, where she has been removed from its Offices & Leadership webpage and replaced her name with Fenton’s, who runs the FEMA regional office in California.
