Former President Donald Trump met this morning in Milwaukee with Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to discuss the possibility of the independent candidate endorsing the Republican nominee, according to multiple people familiar with the huddle.
Asked about the meeting and a potential endorsement, Kennedy denied that he plans to drop out of the race.
“Yes, Mr. Kennedy met with President Trump today to discuss national unity, and he hopes to meet with leaders of the Democratic Party as well,” Kennedy campaign press secretary Stefanie Spear said in a statement. “And no he is not dropping out of the race. He is the only pro-environment, pro-choice, anti-war candidate who beats Donald Trump in head-to-head polls.”
An endorsement by Kennedy, who hits double digits in some polls, would scramble the race, with his potential votes likley going to Trump.
A Yahoo News/YouGov poll in late June appeared to show Kennedy pulls an equal amount of votes from Trump and Biden.
