The campus of UMass Lowell is under a shelter-in-place order after a person was reported with what is suspected to be a gun, a campus official said Wednesday.
Officers were working to find the person, who was described only as male.
UMass Lowell had issued alerts about an individual who may have a weapon on campus. The alerts sent to the community referred to a search for a person with a weapon near the Riverview Suites residence hall on South Campus. The public was urged to avoid the area as police investigated.
Rep. Lori Trahan shared a statement on social media saying she was monitoring the situation: “I’m actively monitoring the alert of a potentially armed individual near UMass Lowell’s South Campus and in touch with local officials. If you are in Lowell, please follow directions from Lowell Police Department (Official) and UMass Lowell.”
