Wildfire Smoke Postpones Chicago Fire Vs. Vancouver Whitecaps MLS Match In Chicago

Thursday’s match between the Chicago Fire and Vancouver Whitecaps at Soldier Field has been postponed.

The team confirmed the match was called off approximately four hours before the scheduled kickoff as wildfire smoke continues to impact air quality in the Chicago area, with the city having some of the worst air quality in the world according to IQAir.

Thursday’s game was to mark not only the team’s return to the pitch after a lengthy break for the World Cup, but it was also potentially going to mark the debut of Robert Lewandowski, the prized striker who had signed with the team after a long and successful run in Europe with Bayern Munich and FC Barcelona.

It wasn’t known if Lewandowski would play in the game for the Fire as he gets acclimated to MLS, but the team had sold thousands of tickets to the game after he signed with the club earlier this month.
